SEO Ebook Review - SEOTutor.net29 Aug 2006 02:14 pm

I consider myself pretty knowledgable in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but I certainly don’t know everything. So today while I had some free time I decided to see if I could find any more information that might aid me optimizing my sites for search engines. On one of my frequent trips to the DigitalPoint.com forums I came accross http://www.seotutor.net. I decided to message SEO Tutor©, a DP member and ask him if I could review his Ebook about SEO. He said sure and gave me a free copy.

Upon receiving the Ebook, the first Ebook I’ve ever read, I was suprised at how nicely everything was laid out and its simple navigation system, so I started reading the articles. As expected the first few articles were a general overview of SEO, search engines and why SEO is important. Later chapters went into details of on/off site optimization, what techniques to avoid and which ones are more important. It also listed throughout the book SEO tools and resources to aid the user in their quest for top position. There are tips and highlighted areas so you don’t miss any important information if you are skimming through a chapter. As I said earlier, the book is laid out very user friendly. The book did include a few articles that really weren’t directly SEO related. I didn’t really enjoy that since I like getting straight into what I need/don’t need know, I felt is was sort of just fluff.

For me the book wasn’t very useful, I’ve been doing SEO for over 2 years now and didn’t learn anything new from this Ebook. But if your just starting out or thinking about starting in SEO you should pick up a copy because it will save you a ton of time. It took me a good 4-5 months when I first started out to get a good grip on SEO. Then another 6 months to get good at it. Why? Because it takes time to see the results of your work. If you optimize your site, it might take a month or longer before you start seeing any results. So guessing and testing theories out in SEO is a timily thing, you want to KNOW for sure that what your doing will work so that your site gets good positioning.

In short, if your fairly seasoned in SEO I would pass on this book, but if your starting out or a beginner I would pick up a copy since it will save you a lot of time.

Finally settled into my new place28 Aug 2006 10:07 pm

Well after 4 weeks, I’ve got everything setup at my new place. Got a nice 42′ Plasma HDTV and new couches which finally came in last Sunday. Got everything hooked up, except I don’t have a good sound system yet. That’ll have to wait a bit cause that TV cost me an arm and leg. Still missing a few things like a rug and pictures on the wall, but that will come in due time. I’m just glad I got all the big things out of the way. I finally got some actually work done this past week. Did some link building, some SEO and updated some sites. Still not back to 100% efficience, probably about 60% at this point which is a lot better then 10% for the last 2 months. After Labor Day I should be back in full force. Heres some pics of my pad.

AOL releases Google’s search info14 Aug 2006 03:37 pm

I’m sure most of you know this cause it happened about week ago, but I thought I’d write about it anyway. Last week AOL posted search info online about searches done on AOL.com, which is powered by Google. Now aside from the privacy issue here, this is fantastic data for people like you and me. Having solid data on what people are searching for is one of the most important things to know when working on SEO. There have been a bunch of sites that have posted this data, but I found that http://www.dontdelete.com to be the best so far. You can search here by keyword and it lists the Top 500 keywords. Very very helpful site.

Two new sites13 Aug 2006 09:35 pm

I had some time today while waiting for my furniture to be delivered so I setup 2 new sites.  Wiicheats.com and playstation3cheat.net.  I basically used the same script/template on both sites, I still have to customize the look, but I have plenty of time since both systems aren’t coming out for a few months.

Starcraft08 Aug 2006 08:58 am

I was on Digg today and I saw a post about Starcraft where some Korean gamer pulled off a awesome SCV rush against his opponent. Being a HUGE Starcraft fan years ago I decided to watch and it brought back a lot of good memories, so much so that I’m going to reinstall it once I get home from work today. It also got me thinking that perhaps Starcraft 2 might be in the works *crosses fingers*, so I decided to checkout some domains. There still plenty of decent names available. Starcraft2 is obviously all taken, but then doing a search on Starcraftii I see that net and org were taken, but it looks like whoever has .com had let it expire, so I registered it and now own Starcraftii.com =D A very nice domain if I don’t say so myself. I love finding good domain names.

No time for the internet07 Aug 2006 10:00 pm

Well since I moved in to my new place last Saturday I’ve pretty much have had no time to do anything online related.  Moving into a new area really takes some time to get used to cause you don’t know where anything is and since I didn’t have internet for the first 4 days it made finding stuff that much harder.  I’ve also been setting up my new place, doing a lot of painting and purchasing things I need since the place is still empty.  My furniture is being delivered on Sunday so thats when I’ll post some pics.  Getting a nice 42′ Plasma TV on Sunday also, I gotta have a nice TV.  ^_^  At this rate I don’t think I’m going to get any serious work done until the September, since I’m going away for the next 3 weekends.

Although I personally haven’t had much time to work online lately, my new site is underway, the one that cost me 4K.  I just approved the templates and now the coding phase has begun.  The site should be done by Sept, but probably won’t launch until October cause I want to do some serious testing.  Again I’m not saying what it is until it is 100% completed and tested.

July Earnings & Traffic Summary03 Aug 2006 09:22 pm

21082.gifWell I finally have internet access so here it is, the July report.

Earnings
- - - - - - - - - - -
Google: $650.59
Yahoo: $213.54
Intelli: $70.38
Tribal Fusion: $272.39
Misc Earning: $531.67

Total Earning: $1738.57
Advertising Spent: $0.00

Total Profit: $1738.57 (6.83% Increase)

Traffic (Growth of Unique Monthly Visitors)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Total Growth - 4.4% Increase

Despite the small gains this month it was really a HUGE month for me.  With the exception of Bluesfear, which hit its lowest amount of visitors all year this month, every single site increased in traffic, some doubled and tripled their traffic yeilding a 4.4% increase in total traffic.  That means alot considering Bluesfear makes up about 65% of the total traffic, so a small drop in traffic for Bluesfear translates into a big drop in total traffic.

I think Bluesfear will continue its downward spiral for 1 or 2 more months, by that time I should be able to get into the top 10 pages for my keyword and traffic should once again start to increase.  Since I switched keywords 2 months ago the site has seen about a 18% decrease in traffic.  I suspect it will bottom out at around 23-25% then start going up again.

Profits also had a healthly gain this month, Google seems to be back to normal, last month they were paying very low.  But the other 3 networks continue to payout low.  Im thinking about removing Intelli ads because they are paying almost nothing at this point.  Maybe I’ll try another network.  Anyway, thats it for now.
